What Is Jian Zhan?

Jian Zhan (建盏), also known as Jian Ware or Chinese black ceramics," is a type of Chinese stoneware that originated during late Tang Dynasty (AD 618 to 907) and flourish during Song Dynasty (AD 960-1279).

These stonewares were highly prized during the Song Dynasty and were favored by the royals, nobles and the literati. They are highly regarded for their distinctive dark, lustrous glazes and often in simple, elegant forms.
